The nodes of the moon are not planetary bodies at all, but rather just important "stopping points" in the orbit of the sun and moon. Specifically, the nodes of the moon are the points where the orbit of the Moon intersects the Sun's "ecliptic", or its path. The two nodes are the north node and the south node: North Node: this is the point where the Moon rises above the Sun's ecliptic. The North Node is considered important because it reflects a person's diificult choices that ultimately bring benefit on the road to enlightenment. It represents personal growth and expansive opportunities. South Node: this is the point directly opposite the North Node (180 degrees), where the Moon falls below the Sun's ecliptic. The South Node represents the path of least resistance in life (that which is easier, but not necessarily as fulfilling as the path influenced by the North Node). The South Mode is a like a safe, well-traveled road, perhaps one that was traversed in a previous life. Primarily, the Nodes are considred relative to the houses (although can also be interpreted by sign and by aspect). Depending on the house the nodes occupy, you could seek fulfillment from external sources, like a lover or a career, or from internal sources, like your past lives or roots. |
