Basic Astrology Aspects

The starting point for basic astrology interpretation, as it applies to an individual, is the birth chart, or "natal chart." To the non-astrologer, the natal chart can look confusing - a circular graphic adorned with a seemingly random assortment of mysterious symbols, mathematical notations and geometric angles. In reality, a natal chart isn't random or cryptic at all - it is a precise map of the universe at the time of your birth, with the pictures and numbers representing the positions of the planets at that exact time.

Once you understand what these symbols and numbers mean, you'll be surprised at the "uniformity" of the natal chart creation process. You'll also probably be equally surprised by the accuracy of astrological interpretations based on the positions of planets on this chart.

Don't get us wrong - creating a picture of the universe at any given point in time isn't easy. There is a lot of math involved and doing it by hand can take hours or even days. Luckily, we've now got computers to do all that calculating for us, and nearly every astrologer uses sophisticated software programs to calculate planetary positions and birth charts. That might not seem like purist astrology to you, but it's actually quite beneficial, since it saves time for the most important part of astrology - interpreting the planets' alignment to provide insight into your personality and traits.

Although astrologers differ on what constitutes "basic" astrological interpretation, vs. "advanced" interpretation, we believe that there are six basic aspects to consider when creating a birth chart. These six are:
